How to do a Quick Media Interview Rehearsal
TJ Walker shows you how to do a Rehearsal - even if you "don't have time!"
The surest sign of a novice appearing on TV is the frozen head. The business man or woman is so determined to "get the message out" that all energy is spent trying to pull the script out of the brain and deliver it before it is forgotten.
The result?
The executive looks stiff, scared, nervous, and frozen. The average viewer watching from home or office can't quite put a finger on it, but he or she knows something is wrong with the executive who doesn't move his or her head when talking.
All people move their heads when they talk. This isn't a new skill you have to go out and learn. If you don't believe me, try watching television with the mute button on. Every sit com actor's head moves. Every soap opera actor's head moves when talking. If you watch the news anchors on CBS, NBC, or ABC with the sound off, you will notice that they move their heads when the talk too.
Unfortunately, when people get nervous, they stop doing things they normally do, like move their head. If you are tense or nervous before your TV appearance, you may have to consciously think to yourself during the middle of the interview "I am now moving my head to the right, and now to the left."
This may seem highly contrived, but you will LOOK more natural.
